Oliveiralentejo

European Union legislation provides subsidies to landowners to fell ancient Olive trees and plant younger species in the drive for larger profits for the production of Olive oil. Oliveiralentejo was created in 2004 to save and preserve the unique characteristics of these ancient specimens: symbols of peace, wisdom and triumph. Oliveiralentejo have created three nurseries in Portugal in their quest to save these trees:

• 8 hectares near Evora (150 Kms from Lisbon)
• 4 hectares at Lagoa, Algarve (Southern Portugal)
• 6 hectares at Santarém (near Fatima, Central Portugal)
