Our Olive Trees

All ancient Olive trees saved by Oliveiralentejo are pruned and transplanted with the utmost care taken to preserve the quality and individual characteristics of each tree. Due to these requirements, the size and shape of each individual tree cannot correspond to economic criteria whereby the aim is to transport and transplant as many trees as possible in the rush for profit. Oliveiralentejo’s main concern is the preservation of the tree in its entirety.

During transplanting, the root system of each tree is un-trimmed and encased in soft straw, maintaining ideal humidity conditions in the root system and protecting the fragile roots against knocks and bashes, therefore enabling proper re-growth.

This straw encasing also allows the tree to survive during approximately 6 months without the needs to re-plant, which avoids the trees having to be placed in cumbersome plastic vases or containers or bound in wire netting.

When re-planting, the trees do not need to be removed from the straw encasing, as being a wholly organic material, there are no fears or restrictions on re-growth.
